Recently, I had the honor of being named Favorite American Female Pro Cyclist / Mountain Biking by Bicycling Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards. This means by YOU, the readers of Bicycle Magazine.
Honestly, a commendation like this means more than winning any race (yes, even the Leadville 100), because it comes from the people who inspire ME to get on the bike each day. It is an amazing feeling to be recognized and chosen in this way. I will do my best to live up to and exceed the high bar that’s been set for me. I mean, to share the honors page with my cycling heroes like Kristin Armstrong, Katie Compton and Todd Wells, I’d better be sure to keep my game up and represent.
Shredding single track with some good friends, building a new local trail, inspiring others to swing a leg over the top tube – these are the reasons I love this sport. Sure, winning races is an adrenaline rushed bonus, and for me there are few things as joyous as pushing my mind and body to their limits. But it’s the people and connections I make along the way that truly keep me in the game.
So to all of you, I say Thank You! You are the reason I have so much passion for cycling.
