So summer doesn’t really hit Idaho till about July, which means while kids ar ripping the caps off of fire hydrants in NYC, we’re layering on Gore-Tex and playing the mud. This week has been no different, and finding motivation for training has been getting a bit difficult. Last week the music pushing me was the White Stripes, this week it’s Led Zeppelin. Volume and intensity are on the agenda this week now that we are within the two month window from World’s, and these double workout days aren’t easy. Yesterday was road intervals in the rain. Twenty times 45 second top end accelerations. 1.5 hrs on the bike. Later: 1 hr run with 2 minutes hard, 1 minute easy, four times, all in the rain. Then it went to the gym, with my strength coach Rob Freeman. Lots of core, body weight exercises, stability, stretching, etc. Fourth workout (sort of): fire dept training, working with power tools! In between it all, I was taking care of business, eating, and hanging out in my pajamas to stay warm.
My favorite Spring training gear that’s crucial to my survival and comfort when it’s variable spring mountain weather: Smartwool socks, Specialized BG pro RBX Knicker, Specialized long sleeve wool jersey, Buff Headwear, rubber surgical gloves (worn under cycling gloves for warmth and fit in your pocket), hotel shower cap (for under helmet and looks good too!). Favorite cold weather recovery drink: I just made this up! Hammer Nutrition strawberry Recoverite with hot water and hot cocoa! Good and good for you!
I have also been using a certain competitor as motivation to push me this week, I know she has signed up for World’s, so I’m gunning to beat her!
Cheers
Reba
