Share, challenge, inspire

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.  You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” Eleanor Roosevelt

Striving toward goals, pushing to live your dreams, and moving outside of your comfort zone makes you grow as a person, and nothing inspires me more than seeing you face your fears, head-on. #jointherusch is a simple way we can share our stories and inspire each other.

What’s it about?

In a nutshell, it’s about paying inspiration forward. And backwards. And all around. By sharing the ways I push my own limits and venture into unknown territory, I hope to inspire and motivate others to step outside their comfort zones. And believe me, watching you conquer your fears and being along for the ride inspires me as well. Think of #jointherusch as a way to get motivated by others, and share your experiences to give someone else the confidence to try their own.

Let’s make a deal: I’ll tag my adventures #jointherusch (Instagram, Twitter), and you do the same. We’ll grow and get inspired together—and in some cases, you’ll even win prizes for my partners and sponsors.

Why’s it important to face fears?

Like anything that’s really worthwhile, it’s been my experience that it’s the effort, hard work, stress, and overcoming doubts and insecurities that’s so rewarding. I honestly believe that lining up for a challenge and putting yourself to the test physically and mentally is one of the most valuable things we can do as humans. The result in the end doesn’t really matter. It’s the commitment, effort and growth that make us better people in the end. All of my seemingly impossible achievements came to fruition because I took some risk and the outcome was unknown. You must take a risk in order to find reward.

Yeah, but you’re Rebecca Rusch. I’m just me.

We’re all ‘just me’. You know, I started rock climbing because it excited and scared me, I accepted the challenge of my first adventure race on a whim, I lived out of my 1975 Ford Bronco so I could explore. Before I knew it, I was on a mountain bike pushing to break the 142-mile Kokopelli Trail record. This trail of risky choices shaped me, and has brought me to where I am now. That was my challenge (though there’ll be more, believe me.) Your challenge is unique to you. Maybe it’s a 142-mile ride, or river boarding the Grand Canyon? Maybe you’re working up the courage to tackle your first 5k, or embarking on a new travel adventure? The point is, your ‘just me’ story has the potential to inspire someone. I want to know what is the thing is that makes your hands sweat, your heart race, and your stomach tingle with nerves just imagining the moment you will conquer it.
