A: Enough hydration and calories for the duration are key. I’ve survived on rides on gummy bears and Gatorade. It’s not ideal and I prefer a bit more scientific approach to my nutrition, but really, you can get by as long as you have enough food and fluid. Once those are gone, so are you. Plan ahead for the # of hours for an event or training ride, calculate the calories and hydration needed per hour, then throw in a bit of extra for insurance.
